If you’ve been doing the same workout for a while now, it might start feeling a little like decaf. Not only does it get boring, it can also begin feeling just a little too easy if you don’t step up the intensity. Your PiYo training isn’t going to do much if you’re not challenging yourself. So, here are a few ways to boost your sweat sessions.
- Use a stopwatch
Studies show that short, intense workouts turn out the best results. Limit the amount of time you spend in rest mode and use a stopwatch to let you know when it’s time to work and when you’re free to take a short break.
- Combine strength training and cardio
Why should it be one or the other? Switch back and forth between lifting weights and jumping rope to rev your metabolism while building up muscle.
- Go machine-free
Exercise machines are great for beginners because they make resistance training totally user-friendly. It is important to learn the correct form before adding on too much weight in order to avoid injuries. However, machines don’t get the job done quite like free-weight exercises. When you lift weights, you incorporate more stabilizing muscles, causing you to burn more calories.
- Practice balance
When you add a little instability to your PiYo workouts, you stimulate more muscles than you would if you were in a more stable position. For instance, when you do squats on a wobble board, you will use more of your core muscles to keep your balance.
- Find a workout buddy
When you have a PiYo training partner, you are more likely to stick with your workout plan. Having someone there to hold you accountable increases your motivation to work hard and keep it up. Making your fitness process a little more social is a lot more fun even if you can’t chat the whole time. They say that if you are breathing so hard that it’s hard to carry on a conversation, you are probably doing vigorous-intensity activity, which is the most effective kind.
